About Me

Tamara Thompson is a New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in couples, individual and family therapy. Tamara maintains a private practice on Madison Ave. located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, just a few blocks away from Grand Central Station.

Re-examine all you have been told...Dismiss what insults your Soul." - Walt Whitman

An empath by nature, I bring authenticity, transparency, enthusiasm, humor, openness, respect, and compassion to the therapeutic relationship I have with my clients. My relationship with each client is unique because it is created through meaningful and connecting shared therapeutic interactions which serve as a guide for our work together.

Sessions are tailored to my clients needs, desires and goals. I am a Strength-Based therapist and incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Hypnotherapy, Attachment Theory, Spirituality, Mindfulness, Somatic practices, and Narrative therapy in my practice. I immerse myself in the process and invite my clients to do the same, I am interactive, without being overbearing and I approach each client with curiosity and interest. The goal is to heal the whole person using a holistic approach working together to develop custom skills/tools that will enable my clients to master their thoughts, protect and attract positive energy, manifest their desires, and heal every layer of their being.

Healing is a process and there is usually not one clear cut approach. I am an LMFT, I also practice Hypnotherapy, Reiki, and Somatic Therapy. I am an artist and author who believes that we all have unlimited potential and get to exist as the full expression of who we truly are. I hold workshops and groups and support organizations as well as couples and individuals. I have also written two self-help workbooks/journals:

1. Healing from Infidelity: A Guided Journal: Prompts and Practices to Help You Recover and Move Forward (August 23, 2022)

2. After the Breakup: A Self-Love Workbook: A Compassionate Roadmap to Getting Over Your Ex (January 10, 2023)

Therapy belongs to my client, this is their journey, and I am honored to walk alongside them part of the way .

I help guide my clients to identify their authentic-self, which is sometimes lost or unknown due to the roles and expectations imposed on them by others throughout their lives. We work on rewriting the old/habitual narratives they have been telling themselves and create a new narrative rooted in strength, confidence, compassion and empowerment. I provide supportive and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges and heal from past trauma.

I am dedicated to working collaboratively with each client around attaining their goals, connecting with self, and creating the beautiful life they desire and deserve!
